Lebuhraya Kajang-Seremban Sdn Bhd (LEKAS) will implement Smart Lane activation along selected sections of LEKAS Highway between Kajang Selatan Interchange (LEKAS) and Kajang Perdana Interchanges (SILK) as part of the proactive traffic management initiative to alleviate congestion during both morning and evening peak periods.
The implementation has been approved by the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and the Royal Malaysian Police, and is aimed to improve traffic flow efficiency and enhance road safety at identified congestion-prone locations, particularly during weekday peak hours. The congestion mitigation plan will commence on 12 February 2026.

This initiative to increase lane capacity by implementing a Smart Lane system, which optimises the use of existing road space to improve traffic flow. Safety measures have been considered, including the placement of traffic cones (selected stretch), blinkers and advisory signage to guide motorists and ensure safe lane usage during Smart Lane activation.
The Smart Lane will be:
>Clearly marked with "Smart Lane Start" and "Smart Lane End" signage. Green LED lights indicate the lane is open, while lights off indicate it is closed; and
>Deactivated outside approved hours, when the lane reverts to its original emergency -use function
Guidance for Motorists
To support the implementation, LEKAS has installed advance warning signage, lane direction boards, and visual diagrams illustrating lane allocation and traffic movement at the affected locations. Motorists are advised to:
>Observe all advance warning and directional signage,
>Select the appropriate lane early towards their destination, and
>Maintain lane discipline, especially during peak hours, for a smoother and safer traffic flow.
Ms Chua Lay Hoon, Chief Operating Officer of LEKAS Highway, said the initiative reflects LEKAS's ongoing commitment to proactive traffic management.
"The implementation of Smart Lane activation demonstrates LEKAS's proactive approach in managing congestion during morning and evening peak hours. By temporarily utilising the emergency lane during approved hours and providing earlier lane guidance through enhanced signage, we aim to increase road capacity, reduce weaving movements, and improve overall traffic flow at critical interchange areas.
Road user safety remains our top priority. These traffic management initiatives have been carefully planned and approved by the relevant authorities, and are supported by comprehensive traffic control measures and continuous monitoring to ensure safe and effective implementation."
Monitoring and Review
The implementation will be subject to continuous monitoring and performance evaluation throughout the implementation period. Any necessary adjustments will be made in consultation with the relevant authorities to ensure optimal traffic performance and safety. Road users are encouraged to stay informed through LEKAS's official communication channels and to plan their journeys accordingly.
